About this project

Agrointroductions Ghana (AiG) is working with ActionAid Ghana (AAG) for the production and supply of over 1million high-quality mangrove seedlings to support restoration activities under the Improving Resilience of Coastal Communities (IRCC) in Ghana Project, funded by the Adaptation Fund and coordinated by UN-Habitat. The assignment contributes to strengthening coastal resilience and restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems across eleven coastal communities in the Anloga, Ada West, and Ada East districts of Ghana.

AiG is leading the production and supply of healthy, disease-free, well-rooted, hardened, and salinity-conditioned mangrove seedlings consisting of 40% Red Mangroves (Rhizophora spp.) and 60% White Mangroves (Avicennia spp.).

AiG approach combines climate smart and scientific nursery management systems, decentralized coastal nursery production hubs, and rigorous quality assurance measures to ensure the delivery of vigorous and transplant-ready seedlings with high survival potential under local ecological conditions.

AiG possesses strong technical and operational experience in mangrove restoration, blue carbon ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, and community-based coastal restoration initiatives within Ghana’s coastal wetlands, including the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site. Our multidisciplinary team of mangrove specialists, nursery technicians, restoration practitioners, and field coordinators brings extensive expertise in large-scale mangrove seedling production and ecosystem restoration.
